I have a 454 and i have a coil that has a spark plug and two plugs on top with two white wires and two black wires coming out the top.Does anyone know what they call this type of coil?

Coil pack.. Most gas engines have #cylinders/2 of them. Each one powers two cylinders.. This means you have much greater "Dwell time" and a much hotter spark than in the old days when you had but one coil.

So how can it do two? Well one cylinder is just at the top (end) of the EXHAUST cycle when the other paired cylinder is at the ignition point.. So it's firing two plugs.. one is ready to fire and the other is just trying to fir off in exhaust gas (nothing there to burn one hopes)

Not sure. Funny that you should ask, as I am having the same problem with my tachometer right now and could use some guidance myself.

They say you can run it from one of the white wires coming off the coil. That is where i have mine hooked.I think i should have used the wire that is taped to that white wire.Next time i get to it i will make sure i have a good ground and good 12v.I have two gauges and i have both gauges running off the same ground and 12v.Not sure how good an idea that is.I will see how that works before tapping into the wire that is taped to the wire i an currently using. If that dont work than i guess i will go with the filter. The wire that is taped to the one i am using has a female end do you know where i should look for a male end and how would i match it up since it is on the vehicle?

I have a tach hooked to it and it is jumpy and not reading right.Does this type of ignition system call for a filter between the tach signal and tach?
