Compartment lock arm broke

Does anyone know if there is a place to get parts for the FIC compartment locks instead of having to replace entire lock? There is a 2 inch arm inside lock that opens the latch when the handle is opened that keeps breaking. I'm hoping I can just get the arm instead of buying the whole lock.

  • +1 on higher quality metal. A decent metal shop can easily make that part out of good steel, powder coat it, and it will last longer than most RVs.

Do not have FIC locks have Tri-mark, and they have a part that likes to break as well.

I have fixed it two ways: ONE: had a fabrication shop carve me one out of steel instead of the el-cheapo pot metal they used.. Works much better.

The other thign I've done is machine the part down a bit and put a steel backer in on it, that works 100% as well, but takes tools and skills many do not have.

My suggestion is to take two copies of the part, one broken, one good, to a good fabricator and have him make you a bunch out of higher quality metal.
  • Any hardware store Lowes etc, look at the mail box lock section you should be able to find a lock that you can salvage for the part. Those type of locks are all about the same.
  • About 4 years ago I had the same problem. I called FIC and they sent me five for no charge.
  • The material they are made if is very soft metal and I would guess that is why they keep breaking. I like the machine shop idea though. Thanks
  • See if this place has a replacement for your latch.

  • You can try contacting FIC, but I suspect they won't sell parts. You might be able to get a local machine shop to make you a supply for not too much money. Do try to learn why they are breaking - that sounds wrong.
  • I have not see a latch by itself, only in combination with the lock. you might try an rv dealer to see if they can order just the latch. I would also spend some time trying to figure out why the latches keep breaking. There has to be some pressure on it that should not be there. On my 87 Southwind, the lock/latch combinations are the ones that were corroded and would not urn loose with penetrating oil.
