Contradictions with EV’s

It’s common knowledge that EV’s produce LESS CO2, right??…Either way, FINALLY a long overdue dose of cogent objectivity has been allowed to enter the discussion 🙂

I fixed the long link and the quotes. Please try to shorten those links, because they break the dimensions of the page.

That aside, there's no good way to separate the politics from this topic, so it's time to close it.

And you should include the costs fix the 100,000 abandoned oil wells in Alberta. The average cost to do so is $1,000,000.00 each. Of course the owners of those wells filed for bankruptcy, leaving the taxpayer to mitigate the damage.

When is an oil spill a spill? Only if there are 750 barrels. Enough to drive my RV for about a million miles.

If we don't extract it, it WILL eventually work it's way to the surface, naturally..

Ever hear of "tar pits"?

Those are naturally formed pools of the alleged harmful hydro carbon..

Here is one of the most famous ones..

Perhaps every mile of asphalt of every road needs to be removed down to dirt and put into EPA approved hazardous dumps which are lined with liners made of the same hyrdo carbon molecules as we are driving on a solid cesspool of bad for the earth hydro carbon?

Btw, to drive a million miles from only 750 bbls will require some pretty sophisticated cracking processing, including, fractionation, thermal-cracking, hydro-desulfurization, de-nitrification, hydro-cracking, platforming, reforming, and the manufacture of copious amounts of hydrogen - Why??
Because unfortunately Mother Nature cursed humanity by only providing about 10% of naturally occurring gasoline (approx) in a barrel of oil, the remainder synthesized by complex processing…Quite amazingly, this all somehow happens at about the same cost as a gallon of Milk!!…All a part and parcel of the manufacture of plastics, fertilizers, solar panels, windmills, vehicles and pharmaceuticals (cry’s of NIMBY often raises it’s irrational claims)…Trust that hamburger doesn’t start out at the Supermarket…

The oil-coal burns once.
The solar panel works 30+ years and have potential for recycling.
That EV or storage battery should last 20 years and again work is being done to recycle.

Oil and coal is just drill-mine-burn, drill-mine-burn, FOREVER.

I wonder how much revenue those wells put into Alberta’s coffers, but that’s certainly no excuse - but can they be re-commissioned?… Lesson learned, Alberta should have had the foresight to require an end-of-life mitigation fund…

I love how folks think their EV is pollution free. Everyone in Co. Springs, CO is getting their electricity from a coal fire plant! Yes, that's clean! I love nuclear energy as well (zero emissions) but that creates it's on can of worms on disposal issues. Maybe we could load that nuclear fuel on one of Elon's rockets and send it crashing into the Sun for disposal!
There is the option to put solar on your home and use no net coal electricity. This can be done with or without an EV in your garage.
I doubt you will be the first in your area... what are you waiting for?

I look forward to the day we stop digging for coal and drilling for oil.

Which climate change elite has a home that is 4 times larger than the average home, but consumes 12 times the electricity? Said differently, whose home consumes 191,000 kwh per year while the rest of us consume on the average a measly 15,500 kwh?

When I was full time in the coldest part of the year my consumption was 104 kwh per day. On a yearly basis that is close to 38,000 kwh

In my condo, on a three year average I am using 80 kwh per month. (that is a swindle, as space heating and water heating are rolled into the condo fees, so I have no idea of the energy used). I spent
$17,000.00 for electrical upgrades to make this happen. As we pay 0.147 cents per kwh, ($11.76) I will not break even in energy savings. 2/3 of the bill is delivery charges (total~ $45.00), and various surcharges and taxes. But what I am doing is good for the planet. There is a distant possibility my daughter may choose to live here and reap the benefits.

It stayed pretty well non-political for a long time. Topics like this rarely stay non-political.

time2roll,

Well said. My brother's system in the north is only doing 12 watts today. But 12 watts is better than no watts. This is his first winter with them in place.
