Converter charger series 7400 model 7455

Hi,
My converter charger series 7400 model 7455 (55 amps)is no longer working the way it should. A recent power surge damaged my power supply.

My question is where can I find the same model at a reasonable price? That failing, what is the best replacement model? At what price?

A link would be appreciated.

You can buy another Parallax 7355 and drop it right in. Or buy the unit I linked above for about the same price. It drops in also, but to maximize it's features, you should also install the fuse board which includes the charge wizard button.

Without getting technical at all I can see no negatives about installing the PD unit I linked above. If you want to look into the technical aspects it potentially will charge batteries faster than the your OEM unit. It does make some fan hum when the fans first start running. But the Parallax also makes fan noise when the fans cycle on.

Whoops too late!

Thank you all for your comments and advice. I went with the Powermax 55 amps bought at Amazon for $119. It was easy to replace and is working very well. Once again, thanks.

Plugged in, he needs are mere battery maintenance capable of doing what his original converter did FINE for many years at 35 amperes. It's sorta nuts to fit 10 X 20" 14 ply tires on a VW Beetle. Especially when you see the bill.

The Built-in Charge Wizard is the the reason.

I would not look for the same model.. Depending on one question I would look at one of two Progressive Dynamics models

Is your converter a STAND ALONE.. I have seen a 7455 that is.. If so 9245 from Progressive Dynamics.

Is it built into a power distributrion panel.. IF so the 4655 same company.

When I got my house, in 2005, I found they put in a Progressive Dynamics Intella-Power 9180 with optional wizard (Equal to the 9280 with optional dongle) There is a difference in the option. I did some heavy duty research and still am looking and I have yet to find a BETTER converter than the Progressive Dynamics wizard controlled jobs. Which is best (9100 with option or 9200 with or without) depends on you the user.. If you ahve to ask, ti's 9200 with or without (you need to know how to use the dongle) If you are a "Super User" than it's the 9100 with wizard.. Technically. I'm a super user. but I do not take advantage of the "Super" functions on the 9180.. Only the standard "Dongle" functions and then only on rare occasion.

But the ONLY converters I would recommend are Progressive Dynamics with wizard.

Your batteries will thank you by lasting longer and paying for it.

BFL13 thank you for your explanation and recommendation for the PM3-55...good price with 2 year warranty! The more expansive units do have better Charge wizard options which are not needed in my case.

I think you would be fine with the lower cost PM3-55 deck mount mentioned above. You will not be camping in a way to take advantage of the Charge Wizard in the more expensive PD version from what you have said.

I use PowerMax converters in my rig, and can say they work ok (but so do the other brands or they would not still be in business of course)

Or even this

Depending on your requirements

EDIT--ok requirements posted, OP is on shore power, so just get the PM3-55 above and save $70 and you will be good to go.

Two of you are recommending the PD9260. For RJsfishin, please comment on the reason(s) why it would be a lot better than the older one. For enblethen who is Randy and how do I reach him?

For MEXICOWANDERER and BFL13 I am stationary and do not boondock often.

Lastly replacing my older unit with the PD9260 should be simple. Is it only a matter of re-plugging both large wires at the top of the unit, securing it to the wall and pluging it back in?

Thanks for the answers.
