DC current draw at rest, 2.3 amps with nothing on

Hi,

I have a new to me travel trailer with the discontinued American CS 6000 power distribution unit.
With no shore power attached and all DC fuses removed I see a 2.3 amp draw from the battery.
If I detach the battery charger at the distribution panel + terminal the amperage draw goes down to .25 amps.
Measurement is made by putting amp meter inline between the + battery post and the + input wire.

Is this a normal parasitic draw for the CS 6000 unit?

I know the battery charger in the unit is not that good, cooks battery and is not lithium compatible. Just trying to figure out what is normal before changing things out.

    I like PD, and if that is discontinued it is a good upgrade. thats weird to have a high draw like that, how old is it?

  • Make sure your replacement has high enough voltage for lithium

  • Make sure your Trailer Brake a way switch is also disconnected. There may be a slight fault in it drawing power. The Brake a way is wired direct to the battery POS post. Also, check your LP sensor. It may also be wired direct and not be fused at the Fuse center and have its own fuse. Doug
  • A 2 amp draw is exceedingly high for any modern converter. Maybe a few milliamps but 2 amps is huge.
    My trailer idles at 500 milliamps (1/2 amp) with the fridge running and everything else off but not disconnected.
  • That is not a normal parasitic draw for any converter. It should be a few orders of magnitude lower.
