Dead radio, levelling jacks, keypad lock

You find the coach battery. In that area, you will see the Battery disconnect solenoid. Jayco, installs various in line fuses to that battery cable connections on the solenoid for the Radio and such. Never noticed that they fused the jack system there, but since they are also inop, there is a problem there also. Fixing the door strut would not have caused your problem. Doug

Thanks dougrainer. I'm not seeing any inline fuses in that area. Are these the solenoids I am looking for? They're on the opposite side as the coach battery.


Also, it wasn't a strut I was fixing, it was a switch? (plunger on the door that engages and disengages when the door shuts) which I was assuming was a contact for the keypad lock on the door.

The door thingy sounds like a plunger switch for the dome light etc., not a contact for a keypad mounted in the door. Typically the wires for stuff attached to the door run through a sort of umbilical between the door and the frame on the hinge side, though I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions and alternatives that have been devised.

You might try checking chassis fuses; accessory or radio or convenience fuses would be my first guess, but often vehicle makers delight in throwing random things together on the same fuse without apparent logic...and labeling them cryptically or misleadingly.

The emergency start relay/solenoid is usually under the hood. It allows you to use the coach (aka "house") battery to give yourself a jump start if the chassis battery goes dead out on a campsite.
Doug is referring to the battery that supplies the living quarters. It'll be in a compartment like your other outside storage. Look for another relay/solenoid there, near the battery/batteries. Should look about like this . Can be fuses etc around it. Controlled by a switch inside the coach. Our switch is by the door. It is ON, right? Battery charged, right?

Thanks J-D, I know where that solenoid is and it does have a fuse. The switch for it inside the coach is definitely on. Since all the other 12v power is working I figured that one isn't the problem. Right? I'll check it though.

Do you know if these items are supposed to be powered by the house or the chassis battery? I could see where an RV builder could reasonably wire it to either one.

Since jacks can't deploy with ignition key turned, there must be done integration with chassis electrical. The jacks don't work when house bettery is too low though so they must operate off that.

On Jayco, those are the emergency start solenoid and the 12 volt circuit breakers. IF BOTH your chassis and coach are up front(Jayco has not had that in years). The Battery disconnect will still be located behind the front cab area somewhere in a storage area or stepwell. Do you have 2 batteries up front under the hood? One on the left and one on the right? IF only one battery, then that is your chassis battery and you need to locate your coach battery. Doug

Thanks for identifying those for me. There is definitely a compartment for the coach battery midway back on the left side. I have 2 6-volts set up there.

The things you are having an issue with, in my experience, usually get their power from the chassis battery. This makes the user have the engine running for the levelers (and usually the slides) and the door keypad is allowed to work with coach batteries in off position as would be the case with a salesman's usage or winterizing the rig. In fact, many coaches will have the keypad/keyfob system direct wired to the chassis battery so that with both switches in the off position, the power door locks will work. My Tuscany is set up that way...I can enter the coach via the keypad or keyfob just to check on things or to get something without having to turn on either of the disconnects. With that in mind, I would suspect the issue is with the chassis power, harness and fuses. Beyond that, I can't help much as all my coach experience has been with dp class A units, so, components and their locations, in other types of coaches is better left to those with similar coaches.
