dehumidifier

We have a class C motorhome and have been experiencing condensation during cold weather. Can anybody make a suggestion on what type of dehumidifier we should get?
  • I have the LG LD301EL that I bought at Home Depot in 2011. It works really well. I have it set up for continuous draining. Link to pictures.

I use it during western WA's rainy winter. I don't worry about is filling up the gray tank because the valve for the gray tank is left open during the rainy winter. This is necessary because on those days where it gets below 32°F the kitchen faucet is opened to run at a trickle to keep the water line from freezing.

It gets put away in late Spring. Summers are dry here and it isn't needed.
  • Are you full timing or weekender?
As a full timer I find two of the small whisper quiet ones work good. They are smaller than an electric heater. I have one in the bed room and one on the dining table. Empty once a day and your good to go. Plus they were pretty cheap. Weekender, had a really big one that I used all winter. Loved it, but it is simply too large for a full timer. Check online places like compact appliances.com. Have bought several things from them. Excellent service and decent prices. Always have received my items within a week.
  • Agree-- a small house-type dehumidifier is the only solution to removing moisture.

BUT, while camping, leaving a vent open to draw in cold/dry air helps a lot.
  • Marine supply "chandleries" sell small units that are set into or on top of a sink and the drainage problem is simplified.
  • Lowes carry a couple of real nice affordable smaller ones.

I bought one on the recommendation of my Mobile Repair guy to use during the summer to assist the AC. What a DIFFERENCE it made on how much cooler it was in the MH.

Be sure to get one with a long enough hose so you can have it drain into your shower. Otherwise you have to keep emptying the water cup from it or it shuts off when it reaches the top of the cup.

I found it amazing just how much water it drew out of the inside of the RV!
  • sam's or costco are probably cheaper than walmart, home depot, or lowes.
