Disposing of old A/C

I replaced my old roof A/C last Sunday. Went off without a hitch.
Now I have the old unit that I am wondering how I get rid of it. Where I live, if you wanr to get rid of an old fridge or freezer, you have to pay to have the freon reclaimed and then they put a special sticker on it.

I'm thinking that if I put it out early on a trash pickup night, the scrappers that ride around would grab it.

Any tips?

Thanks!

When ever I want to get rid of ANYTHING, I put an ad on the "free" stuff in Craigslist. I don't care what it is, somebody will want it because it's free. I've often thought about putting an ad on CL that says free dog manure to see how many people would want it.

Lots of the scrap metal dealers also read the Craigslist free section to pick up any scrap metal items such as yours.

In my area I would set it by the road with the trash can the night before and it would be gone the next day. The junk guys do a really nice job.

There is a recycling place near work. I may call there. I don't like going in there because a lot of people get nails and other things in there tires going in and out of there.
If you put out a hot water tank at the curb, they are usually gone in an hour. I may go that route and see what happens. Someone can make a few bucks off it that way.

Put it out for the scrap collectors.
Someone will recycle it.

Around here the scrap metal places will take it but won't pay anything for it. Drop it off at your local scrap metal dealer. I have taken in over 50 window units.
