Dometic freezer door seal and vaccum. Stuck

Been FT for eight years and never had this situation before. The freezer door was stuck so tight that I was concerned the handle would brake off by me pulling. Finally got it open. The only thing that I found was 1" layer of ice in the freezer of which I defrosted. The seal around on door was inspected and was in good condition. Any thoughts? Why would the ice or temp. in the freezer increase a vacuum? The temp. in the refrig. was 36F. New things to learn. Thanks

I'm sorry but you are wrong, yes it does happen on the fridge too. Worked in the refrigerator manufacturing business for over 30 years....

Amazing how folks went from FREEZER to Fridge.. it won't happen on the fridge.
But it can on the freezer.. You open the door on a hot, mosit day and a lot of warm air enters, you close the door and it cools, creating vacuum and holding the door closed.

THere are assorted ways to get it open but basically you need to break the vacuum, I know of only one way to effectively do that without damaging the seal and that is to take a peal and stick mailing label and apply it to the metal face of the freezer so the seal will hit it, This will create two very tiny "Holes" (one on each end) where the seal is not quite prefect.. Has drawbacks however.

Your situation is normal. I used to work at a refrigerator manufacturing plant and we had to start installing a small purge valve to make the doors easier to open. Your gaskets are fine and the ice build up is from warm moist air entering the freezer everytime you open the door.

Mine also does that. Just wait a couple minutes and it will open like normal. Don't know what causes it, but has been that way ever since we owned this rig.

That seems to happen to me a lot. If I have just closed the freezer door it doesn't want to open right away but if I wait a couple of minutes the freezer door will open without pulling too hard. Been doing that so long I don't remember if there was a time it didn't do that.

Our RV frig and freezer does the same when we open it on a hot day. We have learned to just wait a little or pull harder on the doors if we need to get back in it quickly. I think its a good thing I know the seals are good and working.

Happens to well sealed home fridges too.

Open it and let warm air in the fridge while grabbing a beer. That warm air is cooled rapidly and shrinks, causing a slight vacuum

My friends home fridge is so bad that you have to open it from the corner of the door or wait a few minutes for the pressure to equalize.

I recommend cleaning the surfaces and using a silicone spray for that.

put some spray cooking oil on your door seal and you won't have that problem any more
