I talked with one of the engineers who designed this mod a week ago and was told that this mod is not to prevent a fire but only to keep the RV from burning to the ground if the unit does leak and catch fire. It will contain the fire. He said you will still get massive smoke from the vent but the thermal switch will shut down the gas and power. He said it is a small number of units that will fail and chances are mine would never catch fire anyway but to them even a few fires are too many. He was very helpful and gave me all the info I asked of him. He said also if my unit did fail after the recall is complete that Dometic will replace the cooling unit at no charge. I asked him why we were kept in the dark on this mod and was told that they were told to not give out too much info on it because when they do it gets turned around too much be each person until the info is completly different from what is given out by the company. I guess we will see how this plays out in the long run. By the way i found that the way to get a call from the engineers is to threaton a class action law suit. I got a call back the next day after my email.
