Dometic rooftop AC operation

Unit is duct air in a 2002 Coachman class C. Forgot to get the model number and the MH is sitting in a distant campground but I'll give this a shot anyway. On startup, the unit runs fine but as the temp approaches thermostat setting, the compressor will cycle on and off at progressively faster intervals till it's every ten seconds or so. I just replaced the compressor relay and I would think that all this activity caused the relay to stick closed. Is any of this normal? Thanks!
  • Still sounds like the thermostat to me. Thermostat should have a restart delay that does not seem to be functioning.
  • Thanks guys. Here's the scenario...Turn it on,fan is on auto high.Runs normally till it cools the MH to what would be close to thermostat setting, compressor kicks off,fan still running. One,two minutes later, compressor kicks back on for a minute or so,then off again. The frequency of this cycle speeds up like earlier stated.I'm sure it's the compressor doing the cycling, fan never quits. Drives me nuts so I get out of bed and turn down the therm and everything is good till it cools down more ,then back to cycling. I would think there would be a wider gap for the off,on compressor relay switch in the thermostat. My thinking is the compressor should run without cycling till the desired temp is reached. Replacing it is my next move...wished I would have remembered to write down that model number.
  • I can pretty much garentee the compressor is not cycling that fast- that would lock up due to high pressure. You are hearing something else.
  • Thermostat has auto speed feature that changes fan speed as temperature approached set temp. That is the way it is made, and no option to change. Get a new thermostat installed.
  • Thermostat. If you have the crappy OE thermostat I would change it for something more accurate.
