Dual 6V Battery Box

I'm upgrading my sons 5er from 2 12V batteries to 2 6V located in the front storage compartment. I'm looking for a reasonably priced and lighter box vs the heavy duty, heavy and high cost ($65+) ones. The box will need to be sealed and vented (a DIY project) since it's going in the storage compartment.

Anyone know where I can locate one? I've found single $10 6V boxes that look acceptable but would prefer a dual box.

Thanks

Chemistry 101

Simple hydrogen rises fast - fast - fast

Oxygen has similar weight to atmosphere

Hydrogen sulfide is slightly heavier than air.

Sulfur dioxide is similar to atmosphere.

NEVER exhaust a battery storage area through a fan.

ALWAYS feed air to the storage low with a fan at the inlet and exhaust high up with no fan to purge the container.

You could probably buy one but I'd bet it's going to be expensive.

Unless you have a really abnormal charging scene, the amount of hydrogen produced is very small and is easy to vent because of it's weight differential with air. I did a bunch of searching and calculating when I built my 2-6V box. Mine is vented with a single 3/4" tube to the exterior. The chrome vent cap on the exterior has a diaphragm to prevent backflow of air. A couple of small holes toward the bottom of the box allows for air displacement.

This box is lined with FRP plastic and has a gasket seal below the lid. It seems to be holding up well. Cables exit the bottom of the box into a 2" ABS pipe. The pipe is hung underneath the trailer and exits into the electrical distribution cabinet on the opposing side of the trailer. Total run to distribution bus with 1/0 cable is 6'.

I found the NOCO boxes to be much cheaper at BatteryStuff vs Amazon.

but if gas rises, it should go out before filtering down???
also did you vent the bottom

You didn't say how many batteries you were going to install. Noco has one very nice box for dual CG2 batteries. The white box comes in several sizes: side by side, end to end, and a four CG2 box.

The white All Battery boxes are not sealed. For my son's fiver we sealed the dual 6V box which is located in a storage locker.
1. Added a high and low vent connected to the outside.
2. Glued a plastic cover for the U shaped battery cables. Then drilled a hole for a tight fitting rubber grommet to seal the cables.
3. Added a foam strip to seal on the inside top cover to seal it.
4. Installed a hold down strap.

The results were a vented sealed battery box that fully protects the electrical terminals from his items to be stored. A DIY project with no wasted space for battery box handles etc.

+1 Good box, tight fit for T-105's but otherwise perfect.

I would go for a box that has screws holding on the lid.

The NOCO has a lid held down by hand screws and has a screw hole at each bottom corner to fasten to the floor.

I got my NOCO battery box from here.

Battery Boxes

I did the venting myself by using a circle cutter on the bottom to match the vent hole in the battery compartment and cut the vent stack from the OEM box and installed in the top of the NOCO.
