Easiest To Use Electric Can Opener

Using a regular can opener is literally a pain. Limited left hand and what does work has arthritis...

And cans are getting weird. With pull-tops. Pull. No reaction. Pull harder. Tab breaks off.

Attempt with fancy made-in-usa hand crank. The cutting wheel does not reach the lid. Invert can and the bottom is rounded.

I tried some reviews but there was a lot of chatter about "styles" and whether or not a particular opener was right for the millineal "kitchen collection"

Maybe here someone can steer me right. I could not find this in the consumer reports on google.

Just a hearty thank you for folks who piped-up. I have a PAIR of openers coming. Different models. One has a bottle-cap remover helper. No more Vice Grips.

    Usually, shaking hands and a friendly greeting can save money. I must have stuff declared "facturaccion" to send stuff to the family. The process is straightforward. Yes, this is Garita 2. Otay Mesa (OH-tie) is the commercial route.

    Costco TV's. What costs $400 dollars in Mexico will cost $230 dollars in the USA.
    UPS Store 0250 costs me $70 three months. They accept packages from everyone. Three blocks off the 805 at Telegraph Canyon Rd exit.

    Sounds like San Ysidro crossing. I asked at Postal Annex Plus in SY to set an account, but their annual charge is too high. Need to find a cheaper outlet.
    40" flat screen TV from Amazon will incur ~$40 tax, still better than paying $200 more for the same model in Ensenada. Actually, there might be less than $40 if this is the only big item. First $300 is exempt.

    I hole-up in a rental not too far from the border when I have medical appointments. Traveling 1,500 miles straight-line back and forth can be a trial. I sometimes trade genuine FAA PMA grade electrical repairs to starters and alternators for a ride then continue on by bus. But my vast stock of FAA repair parts are thinning out and there are none available at those old prices. I did a pair of alternators for a Beech, and flew down at high speed in September. Right to Lazaro Cardenas. No flat screen TV's so the customs people lost interest. My bags were packed with goodies. I have clothing there. Fabulous a one hour ride home. Then I was picked up 22-days later. That won't miracle again :(

    How are you getting this across the border, or is it an old trusty pony-aka-relatives-express? (for those who don't know - there is essentially NO shipping from US to Mexico)

    We've had this one for about a year, so can't give a long term report. I'm impressed with it and recommend it. There's also a model 76607 that's the same opener plus a pair of scissors that hook on the back. Before getting this I never realized how much opening cans was wrecking my wrists. The neat thing with this opener is you can press the cut lid back on the can and it looks like it was never opened. Good for hiding valuables, scaring people with compressed-spring snakes, etc.

    We have the side cut type but it really needs two hands, one to hold the handle and the other to turn the crank. Works great but the wife with limited left hand usage doesn't use it.

    Take a look at this page it has a lot of different types including some that claim to work for people with hand problems

    There are many brands of side cut can openers that leave no sharp edge to get cut on. Here's a manual one. Not sure how well it would work with arthritis. I have that too but no problems opening cans yet.
