Electric Awning - Can It Unfurl

I used a Awning Clamp (Cliky) on my old house to keep the awning secure on the road.
When I picked up the new trailer at camping world they told me that a clamp on the new awning would not be necessary because it is electric and cannot unfurl.
I am not real sold on the idea that the electric awning is totally secure and does not need a clamp.
Any experience with this critter, am I needlessly concerned?
Thanks
Joe
  • The motor holds it perfectly, much like the motors in your cars power windows hold them in any position. (Your awning actually uses a power window motor)
There's no need what so ever to brace it further and if you were to forget that clamp and activate the awning.. who knows what would happen.
  • in over 20,000 miles of towing ours hasn't ever budged from the side of the trailer. A clamp is just one more thing to forget and try to extend with the clamp still on. Don't worry about it.
  • On man, now you got me paranoid. :h

however maybe that is one good thing about the modern flap in the breeze electric awnings. :W
  • Dave, that is actually the second good thing, about the electric. The first is the ease of use!

Mine is so easy to use, that I push the button to put it away, at the first sign of a breeze. LOL

  • Can it unfurl? Yes it can but it requires the motor to completely fail for that to happen. Not something that happens a lot. It didn't happen to us but we have met one couple who did have it happen.
  • Thanks for the info, I feel better about it now.
    I Think:h
  • Yes it can. I had one do that.
The casting that held the motor gear in position to the roller gear, wore so that one of the holes became elongated and the two disengaged, and the awning rolled out.
On the Carefree, it's not a worm gear.
I had to roll it back by hand, and tied it off with plastic zip ties.
Had to replace the motor assembly.
