Evening,

Has anyone added a built in electric fireplace?

The "Quick Box" outlets used in most RV's are not something I care to plug a space heater into,,that includes an electric fire place. I have read enough stories.. INCLUDING MY OWN.. of outlet failure and some of those can (Or have) Caused fires (Mine could have but I fixed it first)

Hard wiring using proper wire...No problems. Install dedicated HD (15/20 outlet) with proper (12ga) wire, No problem... Using Quick-Box Outlet.. Problem.
  • Added one to ours below the tv. Was unused space that was not very deep. Found one at HD.....and have it so I could plug into 5ver but mostly plug into the 20 amp circuit on the pedestal.
  • I added one to our 5er. I had a cabinet below the TV that was little used. Found one at electricfireplacesdirect.com that fit the opening perfectly. Just removed the cabinet doors, added a new outlet, added some trim, and looks great.

Lower cabinet had doors like those above the fireplace. TV is above those doors.

    Yes.

Replaced the in dash tv with fireplace. Place flat screen tv on dash to the right of fireplace when parked. Store tv between bed and wall with pillow on each side when traveling.

    Nice. Good job.
  • We use an oil-filled electric radiator, together with a crackling fire DVD playing on the large flat screen TV. It almost makes you rub your hands together when you first walk up to it.
  • We didn't add it, but we have it. Right below the TV and we love it.
  • Yes.

Got to watch the wiring for those. They tend to be running full power and on for long periods of time. These are just standard HOT CORE Electric Heaters with fancy rotating drum with a light bulb to give you a fireplace illusion.

They are great in the mornings to take the chill off the floor...

We also like to use the standard oil filled electric heaters and run a 120VAC extension cord out to the camp ground 20AMP service pedestal receptacles. Better to use their power than to use my propane...

The one we had we usually just ran the fireplace illusion drum without turning on the electric heat...
