Electrical Question

So, after reading several people talking about a surge protector, I went in search of one. I am looking at this one. However, I want to make sure I understand ...

This is not a surge protector? It just tells us if the power coming out of the electrical supply is good electric. Is that right?

If so, then this will not protect against an electrical surge, or if there is a lightning strike to the electrical supply. Right?

I know there are true surge protectors, but they are a lot more expensive, and I am trying to learn all I can so I can convince hubby on which one we should buy and why.

Thanks! Jules
  • If you are going to go the surge protector route...go all the way and go correct.

Get a Progressive Industries unit that does it all...solid, true surge protection AND (even more important), low voltage shut off.

More expensive, yes, but true protection.
  • No surge protector will protect you from a direct lightening strike.
  • It is a good surge protector but it will not protect against the more common high or low voltage.

Full protection is this one: Amazon
  • No no no no no.

Get a Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C or an EMS-HW30C or the portable version of one of the above. (I don't know if your rig is 30a or 50a.)

Don't cheap out on this. It is too important.

I think I told you in the other thread to get a multi-function one. not the $90 (or $71) special, but $250 and up. if you want to cheap out, just get a $6.00 6 outlet strip at walmart.
