Electrolysis

The ART of wiring commercial fishing steel vessels goes far far beyond anything automotive related and makes for true and accurate study if one is interested.

I have seen expensive Airstream rigs dissolved by electrolysis in just a few years. Thousands of dollars damage. The aluminum must be kept utterly isolated. Earth ground green wire circuits on all AC then Tested to ensure no potential 00.00 volts between insulated chassis and earth ground.

Ships can lose five thousand dollars in zincs or a ten thousand dollar set of propellers in a few months. I have seen 12 gauge wires for yards with nothing but green powder inside.

Take heed with aluminum electricity and high humidity

It is, like many words it has multiple meanings.

English is such a fun language. that is why there are Two To's Too many. and some folks do not know the difference between a Burro And a Borough. (note I am not speaking of any person in this thread. that last applies in other places. but it is funny which is why I put it here).

worked the mag cells in Freeport, TX. Chlorine spell all around. Some of the magnesium was buried all over the other sections of the plant, not only sacrificial but made nice parking lots.

The northeast US has the roads covered with salt and sprayed on chemicals, I would never take an RV out till the spring rains wash most of it away, I say most because all of it never goes away. Likewise, I would never buy an RV that was shipped to a dealer or RV show during the salt months. I have replaced damaged wiring and repaired rust on snowmobile trailers for years. That salt travels inside the wiring jacket making splicing impossible, only replacement works.

I wish you had been working at Fleetwood when they designed my 2001 American Coach. The basement compartment walls were framed out with steel tubing and filled in with foam and plastic. Then the piece de resistance, they covered the whole bottom of the basement with a sheet of aluminum!! Talk about wizard engineering. Needless to say, the aluminum sheet and the steel framework got along well together for about 3 years and all of a sudden the steel tubing made it's way through the aluminum sheet and saw roadway and water which it sucked up and used to corrode itself away. The steel tube framework had to be completely replaced and a new bottom installed. I chose galvanized sheet this time rather than aluminum.

I was talking with a Fleetwood engineer at a rally one time and asked if I could meet the guy responsible for that engineering marvel. He said, "he doesn't work for us anymore"
Today is my personal best for most consecutive days alive.

Though what you say is true.. IT is possible to connect copper to Aluminum.

Just do not ask me how (They make special connectors is all I know, specifically for that job)

Otherwise. you are correct.

Mix two different metals. add electricity and moisture. Bad things happen.. FAST
