Emerald plus Genset 6500 issues

Hi,

Two years ago, I worked a deal with my mother and her hubby on 1990.5 Bounder with 460 that hadn't ran for over ten years, and had only 35K miles on it. Yes, fuel issues in the tank when I took it. But that isn't the problem.

Motorhome runs fine - haven't driven it a lot - put about 2500 miles on it in the last two years, but generator (model in subject line) was having issues. The first year we owned it, I ended up pulling the fuel line generator side of generator fuel filter and got it running out of a gas can mixed heavily with seafoam quite nicely. Like as long as I wanted to run it.

So last year, we didn't hardly get out - mother-in-law had health complications that required my wife in Seattle area most of the summer. But here's the deal - silly generator wouldn't run anymore. Acts like it wanted to but wouldn't.

I was just out there again. It does have a fresh oil change. It is getting plenty of gas to the carb-as in gushing. Outside spark plug is wet (closest to me sitting there), inside spark plug isn't, but is coated with carbon. Both plugs changed last year with Autolite 106's. White/grayish exhaust out of pipe when trying to start. Pulled plugs - healthy spark to both. So I have gas, I have spark, but although it ran fine first year, I've got nothing last year and again this year.

Appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

I've heard that staring fluid is pretty hard on those motors most of the experts put gas in a spray bottle and dribble it in carb you don't want to mess it up.

Thanks - it came thru - I will take a look at it this evening.

No, I'm not running out of a gas can - it's hooked up to tank, and plenty of gas getting to carb as I unhooked fuel filter, then hit start button. I had replaced the small fuel pump as well two years ago, so I didn't think that was the issue. I did spray starter fluid into the intake - still nothing.

You're going to have to clean that carb and maybe the slip rings . Give us the full model number and we'll get you a service manual.

I take it that you are still just trying to run it out of a gas can? That's actually the way I have to run mine right now until I get around to replacing the fuel line to the gas tank. My fuel line was disintegrating and tiny pieces of rubber had plugged up the carb. You may have the same problem. You say that you have good spark, try spraying a little starting fluid into the air intake and see if it runs. If it does then take off the carb. and spray the passages out with compressed air, then spray them with carb cleaner. That should get it going. Put on a fuel filter, and make sure that your fuel pump hasn't been contaminated with junk that could be plugging up the carb. If you find little rubber bits, you may also need to replace your fuel line. Post to this thread again when you've tried these things and let us know what happens. Then we can figure out what to do next. Good luck with your repairs.
