Engine Reduced Power

We have 07 Winn Voyage on Workhorse W24 chassis. We arrived at CG. Turned off engine and unhooked tow car. When I restarted I got REDUCED ENGINE POWER warning and check engine light and engine running very rough, press gas pedal and no response. I turned off, restarted, now seems okay but check engine light is still on. I searched and found many posting of possible causes and how to repair. My priority questions are 1) does it always run normally when restarted? And 2) does it only occur when starting? Will it cut out on me while driving? I will get it checked out when I get home. Want to feel comfortable that I am not going to get stranded or have an accident.

Thanks

And/or you can buy a $10 ELM OBD2 bluetooth module and a $5 app and read it anytime yourself.
  • It could have been a loose fuel cap. Once you refueled the system no longer saw any issues and shut off check light.

Stopped bought gas at Pilot. Started okay and check engine light is now off! Go figure.....

There should be a stored code in the ECM. Have someone read the code so you know what happened or have it repaired.

  • Maybe went into "limp mode"? Had a previous V10 do that near home. Got a mobile mechanic to look at it and it turned out to be just a loose wire on a connector. Limp mode is designed to protect an engine against a number of issues and will reduce power a lot. Pretty unnerving when it happens. Running the engine codes would be the thing to do. OBDII readers are pretty inexpensive and a good tool to have handy. Got one from HF after the above incident and have used it 2 or 3 times since.
