Entertainment/Sound System Issues

Hello all,

I just purchased a 2000 Winnebago Chieftain 36W and I am running into an issue with the entertainment/sound system.

It appears that the previous owner had several upgrades installed when they purchased the unit, which one of the upgrades was the entertainment/sound system.

In the upper right cabinet, there is a signal amplifier where you can choose what video source will be on each t.v. (antenna, satellite, cable, vcr, etc.)

There is also a switch where you can choose where the sound comes from that goes to the surround sound system (radio or t.v.)

When the switch is in the radio position the sound goes through the surround system like it should, but when I move the switch to the t.v. position, no sound goes through the surround system and the sound comes out of only the t.v. speaker.

I've checked all connections and everything appears to be connected correctly and nothing is loose. A link to a picture of the selector switch is below so you can see what I have. Any info will be a huge help.

There is no audio out cord plugged into the back of the TV and I don't remember seeing an audio in connection anywhere on either the source selectors.

I'll check again though. Maybe I missed something the first time.

Since most new flat panels have an earphone jack and many of them mute the TV speakers when connected, it seems like you have a cable missing. There should be a cable from the screen's earphone stero jack to the input of the selector. It may be that your selector has conventional RCA audio jack inputs and the previous owner was not able to find the gender changer to go from 3.5MM stereo to two RCA audio inputs. X2 The TV menu should have an audio section that allows you to choose "(TV)Speakers" or "Audio Output." The audio output may be component (red and white cables) or optical (special fiber optic cable) or it may be a 3.5 mm stereo (earphone) plug. As one poster said, check for a cable from the TV to the surround sound amp. There should be an answer that allows the TV sound to go through the surround system.

Can you look at the back of the TV and see if there is an audio cable plugged into it?

It is a newer t.v. You're correct, the original t.v. was a tube, but the previous owner upgraded both the front & rear t.v's to flat panels.

Possibly the audio isn't connected to the TV. Has the TV been replaced or is it the original? It probably would have been a tube TV originally.

my 1999 chieftain had a similar setup. never could figure out how it was supposed to work. 🙂
