This is the relay I used for Quicksilver. Two relay COILS can be connected in series for 240 volt operation. EACH relay contact is rated for THIRTY AMP continuous service. One relay can be used for 30-amp shore power/generator auto transfer. Two relays can provide dedicated 30 ampere 240 volt service. One contact EACH relay for neutral. Breaker EACH relay neutral for 30-amps.

For X-tra heavy duty service I used double relays for 30 amp shore power.

Compared to most relays I have seen in modern motorhomes these guys are light-years superior in capacity and longevity. Contacts are silver-cadmium flashed, and connections are flat blade screw.

The price is one-third to one-fourth that normally found.

The fishing vessel Kelley II, uses EIGHT of these relays for high amperage 3 phase 4-wire, shore / generator power.

I would like to lay eyesight on what's inside a "Progressive Dynamics" transfer switch. The relay.

Yes this relay is "Old School (like me)"

But it makes a rolling-on-the-floor joke out of those .250" Faston connector relays as is depicted above. Like comparing a Wiha screwdriver to a Glorious Revolution Hero Factory No 32, screwdriver.

My primary objective is to Make It - Install It - Forget It

Utter reliability.

And NO and NC contacts need to be mused over. Shore power demands NC and guess what? NC contacts are "The Weakest Link". Or are you trying to convince reality that a generator normally supplies more amperage to your rig than a power pedestal?

Relay voltage threshold chatter is only a problem if amperage is broken and remade in the power contacts. Are you trying to tell me you spin down a generator with power load circuits loaded down?

The relay CONTACT area mm sq of the large relay dwarfs that of a plug-in relay. Or does anyone want to argue the point that the duty-cycle ability of a tiny relay equals that of a large relay? Quicksilver was built in the years following the outfitting of the Kelley II. I DID break-down and clean the power contacts with De-Oxit D100 the last visit (whether they needed it or not).

Meanwhile I am going to order some relays. And Yes, I do use SCR and solid state DC relays. Try and find one that lasts 30-years ๐Ÿ™‚

Good catch. I must have assumed that the NC and NO ratings would be the same. I used this relay to transfer between inverter and shore/generator power. My 300 watt inverter is connected to the NC contacts so I lucked out.

WARNING. If you need 30 amps for both the NC and NO contacts, don't buy this one.

Never owned a 50A rv ...
There are 3 standard RV connections in the US and Canada - 20A and 30A, both 120V and 50A which is 120/240V. :C

That store sells one with 120VAC coil but it's about the same price I paid, ~$60.

And for $69 on Amazon you can get a Progressive Dynamics transfer switch in a nice big electrical box with strain reliefโ€™s and a time delay. That's what I would do if I were to do it over again.

I prefer DC for generator transfers- keeps the coil from chattering on shutdown. Only trouble is rectifying 120 volts AC yields somewhere above 120 vdc, I believe.
