ez connector

Anyone have any experience with this connector for their electrical connection on your trailer or toad? I am currently having problems with my 7-pin and 6-pin connections. Thanks.

  • I know this is an old thread, but I will enter my experience with EZ Connector anyway.

I also got aggravated with the usual plug setup. It was sometimes coming loose, so I invested (heavily I might add) in this new cable and connectors for my fiver. Seemed OK at first, then when hooking up I got NC errors sometimes until I went back and reinserted the plug.....sometimes a couple of times. It seems sensitive to the direction of rotation to line up the key way. Kind of a small problem. I wasn't gonna bellyache too much about that.

Then later came the serious problem which made me tear my hair out. If upon hooking up I tested the brakes without starting up the truck, the controller worked normally. As soon as I started up the truck...and about 3 or 4 seconds later I got NC and the brake controller would not actuate the brakes at all until I turned the truck off. Ain't that a kicker.

I tested and tested and tested, wiggled wires and wiggled wires, and did a lot of swearing. Then I just removed the EZ Connector and reinstalled my other standard type cable and connectors. Problem solved.

The EZ Connector seems like a well engineered thing, but as there ad says, "Big Plans Ruined By A Small Plug?"........ well our plans were ruined by their plug.
  • Did you take them apart and check for loose wires?
Opening the females might make the contacts looser causing intermittent operation.

  • The problem I am having is that both connectors have intermittent connection. When I connect my toad and check the lights sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. If I wiggle one or both of the connectors they will work. I have cleaned, and applied die electric grease to both. Still no good. I'm concerned that when I get the connection spot just right and drive down the road I will lose the sweet spot and have no lights. There are no loose wires the problem is in the connector. I have also opened the pins in the 6 pin female side to help it make contact. There is not much that can be done to the 7 pin side.
  • I would not change it to one of these.

Clean up existing connector and find out what is causing the issue.
Are you using adapters? What is your issue?
  • I looked that connector up. It looks like a lot of expense and work to change it out.
By the time you unwire the old and rewire and mount the new not sure if you gain much of anything.

  • Seems like a decent product. I have no intention of buying one and rewiring my electrical outputs but it may be an easier connection for some.
  • I am also happy with my 7 pi. Full of dielectric grease, never a problem 8 years. I hope I didn't just jinx myself...
  • What problems are you having?
My 7 pin has been trouble free for 12 years except when a wire inside came off.
