Flushing out HWH

I want to get a wand to flush the HWH, but don't want all the sediment getting into my water pipes, do you guys have any issues after flushing the tank with sediment getting into the pipes and clogging up faucets etc? I was thinking I might just go get some pvc caps to go on the inlet and outlet for the water heater so nothing gets in the system
  • I remove drain on WH tank.........then turn on water supply and lets it flush out the WH tank while stirring things around with a piece of stiff wire (I use an old welding rod).

Then when the large chunks (if any) stop flowing out I turn off water supply and then finish flushing/rinsing with the wand. Stick it in pointed up and blast away.

Next time I use RV I just pull aerators on kitchen sink and flush lines (hot/cold) thru it before any other faucet/shower is used
  • I use a flush wand on my Surburban water heater. I remove the anode rod, stick the flush wand thru the hole, turn on the water, and the sediment stirred up comes back out the same hole. No danger of it going into the pipes. Flush until clear water comes out.
  • If the sediment that's in there now isn't getting in the pipes, it won't after you clean it either.
