Fridge Door adjustment

The main door on my Norcold N82X needs an alignment so that the slider to have the door partly open and the slide engaged fits into it's slot.

I reckon it's either the top or the bottom hinge that might have adjustment built into it.

Any wise people able to offer suggestions?

thanks, Mike

There was a thread here about adjusting fridge doors. I don't have the best of luck searching RV.net, maybe somebody else will. I don't remember if fridge was Norcold or Dometic, but I know it wasn't residential.

Not all Norcold N-Series hinges are the same, so different techniques might be needed for different production dates of the same model.
  • Not sure if this is what it needs but I had to put a 1/4" nylon bushing on the bottom hinge pins to lift the door slightly and get them to latch properly.

  • I didn't find enough play in the hinge to make the slide latch work properly. I did the same as ScottG except used two or three thinner washers.

Without pictures, my suggestion would be to look at the parting lines between the cabinet-mounted and the door-mounted portions of the upper and lower hinges. I think you'll find the upper to be a wider gap than the bottom. Try to find washers or bushings to add to the bottom so the two gaps are back to equal.
  • I'm following along. Had a seal issue with Dometic and I removed the door and did an 'Armstrong on it to get it to fit properly.

Just a tip...I've found it easier to use google to search for rv.net threads.

example...google- adjusting fridge doors on rv.net

Based on that tip, I found This about Norcold. Read down, toward the end it mentions shimming with washers. Also warns those with plastic hinges to get the Norcold reinforcement kit.

When we had a Dometic, I was able to warp the door so the corner without the Latch (upper Freezer, lower Fridge) hit the Gasket first, then it all went tight when the Latch closed.

Doors on this Norcold are so flimsy, the warp doesn't last till the next time we open the door! So we have a Knee Gesture for Fridge where we push the lower corner of the door against the gasket as we close it. For Freezer, it's a High Five to the top corner of that door.
