fuel pressure sensor

2005 E450, 6.8 Had check engine lite come on, code was fuel pressure sensor, replaced, 25 mile later check engine lite on, code fuel pressure sensor again, mechanic replaced again, 100 mile later, check engine lite on again, code fuel pressure sensor again, This last time I was on my way on a trip and just keep going 600 mile as engine seemed to run fine.

Question is , Have I got 2 bad replacement sensors (mechanic gets his parts from NAPA) or is there something else that could cause the sensor to go bad.

In some cases I might agree with that....but not all.

Replacement headlights for my E450 are $500 EACH from Ford. Yes, I asked twice; two different people.

I got them online for about $50 each and they work fine.

Even if they are inferior quality (no indication of that), I can replace them about 9 more times for Ford's price.

I would be looking at the wiring from the sensor. It may have a worn spot and shorts to something at times.

Sometimes the parts from parts houses are seemingly the same as the oem but are lacking a screening process.

Since parts are made in huge batches, it's possible that a sub-batch could go to one distributor then every shipment from that distributor be bad parts.

But I'd think it's more likely something else is setting the code.

What is the Code that's being set?

Did mechanic test, do, change anything else?

Just because the gas has to flow through the filter, I'd put a new one on...

The 6.8L is a gasoline V10.

Very unlikely that you have had multiple failures of the same sensor. I am betting it has something to do with the fuel line/filter or the vapor system.

If I were doing that, I would have tested the actual fuel pressure before replacing anything.

Low pressure due to failing fuel pump or plugged filter ???

I'd guess that something other than the fuel sensor is causing the alarm. I'd post this message in POWERSTROKE@yahoogroups.com. There are full time Ford mechanics on that list who are highly knowledgeable. Not to say that the people here aren't but those guys work all day everyday on this sort of problem.
