Furnace works intermittenly

Question

My furnace will work fine for several days then it will not come on for a few days.  I haven't worked out a pattern for when it works and when it doesn't.  For example, last night it ran for awhile, but sometime in the night it quit.  Any ideas about what is going on?

I had a problem with a Suburban furnace that would randomly decide not to work. After many, many frustrating examinations and swapping the circuit board it turned out to be the sail switch. When it was initially installed the switch was over tightened and cracked the switch housing causing intermittent operation

One possibility.  Your furnace requires a good battery to operate.  The fan on the furnace takes considerable power and as the battery  gets depleted the fan slows down and the safety feature (sail switch) will shut down the furnace.
