Generator/surge protector question

I'm going dry camping this weekend for the first time and will be using a Yamaha 2000 generator. When I camping with hookups I always used a surge protector/voltage regulator plugged in at the power source. So my question when using a generator this weekend should I leave the surge protector off or continue to use it with the generator?

You can use it, but it's not needed

I will second that.. Though there is one slight reason to use a surge protector if you wish...... You can monitor how much power you use (The inline ammeter function of the surge protector)

Invertor generators are very well protected as it is .. if the voltage goes out of range.. They have a tendency to stop working (Actually the internal computer shuts it down) frequency is crystal controlled and highly accurate, Voltage is also tightly controlled. Only engine speed varies.
  • Yamaha come out (this year?) with a new updated version EF2000iSv2 with a new controller. I sent an email to PI support asking if they still prohibit (disclaim) running this new gen through their EMS but got no reply.

    BAD PI support!

Unfortunately you haven't provided any details as to just which make / model of "surge protector" you have but since your genset is a Yamaha EF2000iS you might want to be aware of this Progressive Industries / Yamaha Disclaimer.

Same here. Just dont forget to switch back on when hooking up to the CG. Progressive industries sells an adapter for like $25 so it doesnt read open ground.

  • Protector probably will not like the floating ground.
The inverter generator will not present a problem to the RV.
    Leave it off.
