Hey Jim in Denver! (Megawatt)

A few months ago you reported that your Megawatt Stopped Working when trying to charge several 8-D batteries...

Whatever happened? Did you get it fixed? Return it for credit? Let it sit on a shelf?

Good boy! Do not shoot pictures with camera looking straight down on the subject... there are gps and gravity sensors in that camera, they have to know what is up or down, doesn't work if you take pics from directly above the subject matter.

Megawatt 24 volt? News to me. The cheapowatt and Meanwell both have a different circuit layout never mind part numbers. Be cautious.

Will research better bipolar transistors if available lower ESR caps and detail the weakness in the trident printed circuits leading to the 6 output terminal block. Genuine SILVER heatsink compound however is a must between discrete and block then block to case. Whatever it takes to remove heat away from those P/N junctions.

This is a very good thermal compound...

Scroll down the page. Links to many products. Double check to insure what you choose says "Silver". Syringe, tube, can, etc. Too much is far better than too little.

Remember: For the others that bought Megawatt's, a tutorial with pictures and part numbers/links are worth thousands of words.....and save a whole lot of head scratching....

I feel akin to the Lone Ranger's horse when it comes to heat sink compound. The silver stuff works way better than ceramic or zinc oxide. The toroids generate a lot of heat. Anxious to tear down the Mega and see if the bridge rectifier failed. If so, a 45-amp replaces a 25-amp sooo easy. That and silver glop otter do it.

Thank you scvjeff, for slobbering a bunch of heat sink paste on my MegaWatt where the walls sit up against the transistors, when putting in the 1k ohm pot.

Hopefully that will prevent it from embowelling it's electrical guts out in a heated poof of blue sparks and ionized air smells.

Yeah the BORG has Star Trek grade finned heatsinks on the case right over the bi-polar transistors. Cheap @#$%^&! don't use SILVER heat-sink compound, and the transistors sit on an aluminum plate, sandwiched to the case. El Stupid. Glopping on Arctic Silver radically reduces the heating of the plastic case and aluminum base of the transistors. If you read my post haranguing metal speculators I had to spend $100+ to get enough Arctic Silver to be worth a ****. I hope those @#$%^&!'s drown at their winter mansion in Mallorca.

Mex, it's on its way today. I look forward to the autopsy.

Trying to bring up the three 8-Ds kept it at full power far too long and it over heated I believe. First the fan went nuts and then it stopped being able to push up the voltage. I didn't know of the borg enhancements until it was too late.
