Honda 1000 + Extended Tank??

Honda and/or Yammie 1000 owners who run extended tanks, can you post your picks and advice? I'm looking to do this with a 1000-class generator, and I'm having trouble doing this with an off-brand, I keep flooding the engine.

At this point I'm ready to go out and buy a Honda (or Yammie) 1000 if there's engouh evidence the extended tank can work long-term (boondocking only, no neighbors).

Thanks!
  • Not sure why you're flooding the engine. I simply change the gas cap to the one with the standard marine fuel fittings, attach a standard marine outboard fuel hose, attach the external tank, prime the fuel line and it just runs
  • Probably not a good idea to run a Honda Eu1000i for extended lengths of time, it has an aluminum bore cylinder.

Get a Honda EU2000i instead, it has a steel bore cylinder and will last much longer than 600 hours, the rated life of the aluminum bored EU1000i, if run hard.
  • You don't mention which off-brand you are using, but extended run tanks work the best on Generators that have a fuel pump. My champion 3100 watt inverter came from a dealer that does this mod. Most are just gravity flow, and there are known problems with that.

EDIT: this is the dealer that does those mods: http://www.pinellaspowerproducts.com/

You might be able to ask them your questions too.
