Honda EU2000i Extended Run Fuel Tank Question???

I'm messing around with my new Honda EU2000i. I bought an aux fuel tank gas cop from Ebay.

I have a piece of gas line hose running from a gas can, through a transparent fuel filter and into a niple screwed into the gas cap.

I filled the Honda's internal gas tank.

Running the generator I'm not seeing any fuel flow from the aux tank.

It's been running about 15 minutes with no fuel flowing from the aux tank

Does this only happen once the main tank is empty?

Do you need to have fuel in the main tank for this system to work?

The aux tank is not sealed. I simply have the end of the hose inserted into the gasoline.

The wire in the last photo going into the gas can is to hold the end of the fuel line down in the fuel.

Thanks!

DO fill the main tank then hook up the extended run, As the Honda PUMPS (yes PUMPS) gasoline out of the main tank a vacuum will be created which SUCKS fuel out of the extended tank.. EVEN if the extended tank is lower than the main tank.

True story, EU-2000i without e-run tank.. Started, ran a few minutes, starved for fuel and died.. Several times.. Turns out they forget to open the vent valve in the cap.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

I have a bunch of parts hanging around from my motorboat/water skiing days. I have a hose with primer bulb from a Johnson/Evenrude motor and a couple of barb fittings. I'm going to convert two Gerry cans to utilize these fittings. This will make connections easy.

The primer bulb is not needed. Been running my homemade setup for years without one. Save the money.

+1 on primer bulb. That would go a long way to evacuate the air out. I also like getting fuel quick disconnects. That way, you can disconnect the gas can without getting air in the lines, so it can get refilled, or swap out with another tank while the generator is still running.

I would use a 5 gallon boat gas tank for this application. You will not need as much suction to run it. I would also use the fuel line for a small outboard with the "primer bulb"

If you ever used one of the new stupid gas cans, that press down on the tank rim, it can indent the rim causing vacuum loss.

It started working after about 30 minutes. Works great! Thanks!

They don't use much fuel. 15 min run time is not enough time for the vaccum to get high enough to start drawing fuel.

Also, I noticed no hose clamps. The hose, cap and all fittings must be air tight. Any leaks and it will suck the air cause it's easier than the gas.

You nead to use enough fuel to make a vacuum in the tank, then it should start sucking from your aux tank.
