How to secure new TV?

When we purchased our new to us Discovery the first task was to mount a 40 inch TV up front. Looked all over the web foa mount that would drop the TV out and down.

Still just as tight when I first installed after 45k mikes!

Swing out arm for me too. Secure with bungees for travel. Remove and stow for travel if not secure enough to suit you.

If you are securing the TV or swing arm to an interior wall, you can place a thick piece of wood on the other side of the wall to distribute the stress of the anchor point.

Re reading this, there are several good options. Thanks to those who responded.

On our previous 5er my solution wasn't quite as elaborate as BB_TX but similar. I manufactured two pieces of Oak into an "L" shape and mounted that to the floor of the recessed TV area. Then I mounted a swing-arm TV bracket to the "L" shape. To secure the TV for travel I got a couple expanding curtain rods that I placed horizontally in front of the TV and the pressure from expanding them kept them, and the TV, in place. DW is handy with sewing and made a cover for the TV to keep it from getting marred by the curtain rods. Hope this helps.

When I upgraded... Well let me go back a step
My Front TV is in a overhead cabinet with a frame around it.
I removed the frame and measured the actual width of the TV
There were a pair of "Z" brackets (As I recall) on each side of the TV that secured it to the cabinet. Just screws into metal and then plastic.

I measured the width then found one the exact same width at a Pawn Shop.

Now this new Wide Screen is not as tall so I did a bit of woodwork and made the cabinet "Shorter" (raised the floor) no more banging my head on the had banger (NICE side effect)

I then mounted the wide screen with the same brackets and put the cut down frame (had to shorten it too) around it. Looks nice and Original but .. clearly is better.

Shows did not change though (Playing Kinght Rider off DVR)

I have a 42" Samsung that fits inside my cabinet. I have to wiggle it in, so it is snug. It has a nice stand that it stands on. I cover it with a towel when traveling, but don't do anything else to secure it. If it fell, it would not go far as the slide covers the opening when closed. But, it has never fallen and I see no evidence it has even tipped or anything. I have removed it and put it under the bed for long trips or if I know I will be traveling on a really bumpy stretch of off road. I thought about mounting it, but can't find anything strong enough to secure it to.

I also use a swing arm TV mount. I got a little carried away on how I modified my cabinet, but you can just mount a piece of plywood in the opening and attach either a swing arm or wall mount to it. I secure it with velcro straps when traveling.

I used a swing out arm that has a second arm that allows rotation and tilting. The arm is heavy duty and mounted to the front side edge of the cabinet where there is firm wood framing to take the weight.

A bungee cord to a hook at the back of the old TV cabinet stops it from moving while driving.

This also leaves room where the old TV was for other things like speakers, DVD player, etc.
