Husky WDH Clip Failure - good CS

On the way home today from a campground two cars pulled up next to me and honked the horn and motioned that something was wrong. Even with the window open I can't read lips well so I pulled over where it was safe and found the clip that holds the WD bar in the hitch broken, the bar was dragging under the trailer and worn about 10-25% of the bar off. I re-installed it and went as safely I could where it fell off at the storage when I hit a bump.

I came home and called Husky customer service and told them of my plight. They asked for photos and emailed them. I was told an order was put in for the clips (They have a repair kit) and for a replacement of the damaged bar.

The hitch system was a package when I bought the used trailer from a dealer in 2012. I appreciate and applaud the customer service of not being charged (note: I do not have said parts yet) for this problem. She also instructed me to not pull on the clip to disconnect the bar from the hitch but to rotate the bar outward away from the trailer and it will come out.

This is great as I was contemplating the cost of repair/replacement vs the cost of another hitching system the more robust parts.

Thank you Husky again for good customer service.
  • I just received the parts today!

To answer your question, I had to replace the transmission at 140k miles, it lost 2nd gear and replaced with a Jasper Tranny.

The engine was replaced about the same time, I had an intake gasket failure and left the coolant in the oil too long and damaged the bearings.

    All-in-all I have 173k on the chassis.
  • Interesting. I've been pulling on the little clips too. I'll have to try swiveling the bar next time.

How many miles on your engine and transmission? My 95 K1500 has about 70K on a new engine and 192K on the transmission.
