Inverter Generator Update?

More affordable= more noise. Many on here like Champion.

Although we have an Onan we purchased a Champion 3100 remote start inverter in anticipation of purchasing another rig which will not have an onboard genny. It has impressed me with it's performance and is very quiet by comparison. It is overkill for your needs but the Champion 2K watt inverter generators also have a good following and are more economical than blue or red. There are some other lesser known inverter generators that may be less expensive than a Champion but I think it unwise to take a chance on them, Champion has good US based customer service and plenty of parts availability.

It really is amazing that no one seems to be able to match the Honda 2000 inverter generator for noise. Regardless of the numbers in the specs, I know my ears as they hear generators while walking through a campground and it's truly amazing how quiet those Hondas are.

I'd go for the Champion with the remote electric start. I believe they make a 3500 watt model.

Will a Honda 2000 start an 11.5k AC unit? I didn't think it would, because when I bought the 2400 Yamaha, that was the selling point. And to its credit, the 2400 did the job fairly well. But I'm done with Yamaha because their carburetors don't idle well, and they have virtually no service for generator products.

It may. It will be quite a job to keep it running, and it will be loud.

I'd suggest getting 2. Paired up they run just about anything with minimal noise.

Champion inverter remote electric start
The early model is 3100 peak, 2800 continuous, will run your A/C
The models are 3500/3400 peak 3000 continuous, will run your A/C

Around $1100 for the new models , a bit less for the 3100 model

Hondas are great, but when running an a/c unit the sound difference is almost imperceptible to my ears
Yes at idle in econ mode I think the Honda sounds a little softer
I run a generator because I need it, not to let it idle at 2 amps powering the tv

I'm surprised you have an 11,500 BTU A/C rather than the more common 13,500 BTU size but that aside a single EU2000i will start one of these A/Cs if you equip it with a soft starter such as this Micro-Air Easy Start Soft Starter Kit.

I've owned 2 different Honda EU2000i gensets and contrary to popular theory NO genset, including the Honda, is truly "quiet" ... it's still a man made, gas aspirated machine with moving mechanical parts so yes, it does make a racket. It's fallacy to believe otherwise. :R

Did a search and it seems your M17 Edge has an 11,000 BTU A/C ... equip it with an Easy Start and there's no doubt a single 2K genset would easily start it. :B
