Iota IQ-40 ?

I am hoping IOTA gets bored with making a dozen different profiles and explaining all the differences to the point IOTA makes a programmable IQ controller for a single solution.

Not sure I like the extended absorption during the weekly boost charge. Prefer something that adjusts based on start voltage or time to bulk voltage etc.

does this freeze the bulk charge cycle for 40 hours before advancing to float?

i do know the charging phase is extended but I do not think it takes a whole 40 hours to go to float unless necessary

If it does stay at the higher voltage past when the batts are full, I suppose you could just yank out the controller gizmo and the unit would drop to 13.6 and stay there, which is what the Iota does with no gizmo.

The IQ4 is not like a Charge Wizard. There is no way to pick your voltage stage like you can with a CW.

That Power Max model BFL13 mentioned sounds like a winner. Stick a 6 hour wind up Intermatic Timer on the AC and there you go.

I think the answer is the new Boondocker that is 14.7 boost, 13.6 absorption and 13.2 float AND adjustable. Also does lithium fixed setting for whatever that company (lithium battery manufacture recommends) and equalizes up to 16 VDC for flooded or AGM.

owners or future owners of Iota converters should be happy there are more options as to absorption votlage duration and float voltage, but they still need to figure out which one of the offerings will work best for their specific and average application.

And once they research that, then spinning a voltage dial or a timer seems so much less complicated and so much more effective than trying to figure out which automatic regiment is actually correct for the average use most likely to be seen.

Seek 14.7, hold until full, 13.6v forever after, for me. Easy peazy and happy batteryitis. Full is determined with a ammeter, on my agm.

No way would I trust anything automatic. if I cannot be there when it is time to lower voltage from 14.7 to 13.6v, then time to full is not a concern and I can choose 14.0, or any dang voltage which gives me warm and fuzzies, by spinning a dial.

You have to be careful that you are getting an LK version. Amazon lists them but watch for that LK before you buy.

PowerMax dealers are in transition from old stock PM3s etc, but you can also get PM3-LKs. EG, bestconverters (which calls their PowerMax converters, "Boondockers"), will soon have all LKs, as will the other dealers, but right now they list mostly the older models.

EDIT- the boost voltage for the LKs in 3-stage mode is 14.6v. If you want some other voltage, just go to single stage mode and set that voltage. (Put it back to 14.6 before going back to 3-stage if you ever go back to that)

Perhaps Randy's Boondocker version of the LK will have different 3-stage voltage settings, don't know--doesn't seem likely?

The regular LK spec goes up to 16.5 volts. That means it will match Trojan's 16.2 Equalizing spec for instance

My practice is to use only adjustable voltage, so I have to go from my choice of 14.8 down to 13.6 myself. The 3-stage mode on the LKs is also improved from the older charging profile in that it goes to boost from start-up and stays there for about 30 minutes--see the manual for details.
