Michelin ltx or whatever they call their "best" tires. Put on new mid Oct last year (approx. 3,000 miles ago). Mileage is same for every tire on the ground. I wanted to see if front was wearing even (01 Dodge, not best front end) Both fronts... wearing flat as could be measured with tire wear gauge, fronts showing 14 mm worth of rubber.Both rears...are wearing flat but only 8 mm worth of rubber.Where did 6 mm of rubber go?Certainly my big mega horse power 5.9 with whopping 235 horse is not peeling the rubber off them?:)We've had TT hooked up most of those 3,000 miles. Mostly I-5 Seattle to Yuma (via LA area) and a few sight seeing detours. Running 80 psi on rears 70 on fronts. 800 pds tongue weight, maybe 400 in back of pick up bed.Any comments about where tire wear is going with RV hooked up?

Does your truck have limited slip differential? Turning corners would wear rear tires more then front. Scupping?

If the rear axle is off even a little bit the truck will be 'dog-legging' the front wheel track will be either left or right of the rear wheel track. Since I the front wheels are going straight they wear normally, but the rears are scrubbing slightly and so wearing faster.

You definitely have a suspension problem.Take the truck to a good alignment shop (not a hyped-up chain store),and work them to correct it.Have used Michelins for almost 50 years and never experienced, norheard of wearing this rapidly.40 years in the tire industry; seen it all and done most of it.

That applies to cruising too.
Drive axle tires driven at 90 MPH will wear a lot faster than ones driven at 60.

Rears see more load and all of the acceleration forces. Dad told me years ago that you don't have to spin the tires to wear them out quickly.

A mud and snow tread is a soft compound. Not going to wear long, or last long. Replace with a highway tread if you are going to trailer with the truck. And get an alignment. But suspect the problem is the M+S compound, it just does not last.

I bought a M+S tire for my 1987 Toyota Xtra Cab, once. I got 16,000 miles out of the set. Went back to Bf Goodrich A/T KO's and got 70,000 miles out of that set. That's how soft M+S tire rubber compound is, and how fast it wears. Even in a light Toyota pickup truck, with no trailering.

That might be a significant factor.

That type tends to have more open space in the tread pattern and less actual rubber on the road; built for traction and not longevity.

Thanks for input. Maybe 3 or 4 months ago somebody else said they were having wear problems with this peculiar tire. Tread is mud and snow. Last set was regular hwy tread and replaced at 9 years old and they had tread left. I usually "time out" before I mileage out. So I never paid attention to "mileage warranty" I better look that up. I'll take into the shop I use for alignments. Not that I can tell if they are good or not, but other tires on truck hasn't seen this kind of wear.

This is possible but not definite.

IF.....he is in the habit of driving OVER the speed limit on freeways, the extra wear might be explained by that alone.
Dragging brakes will make it worse.
Anything that increases the wind drag will make it worse.

I too think it sounds excessive but if that particular tire is engineered more toward traction than for wear and there are aggravating circumstances present it might be "normal".
