Keeping water out of revoltuon mh engine air intake

Looking at my air intake box at the left rear I see the hose is at the top of the box making it harder for the water to get sucked in. What water does get sucked in drains at the filter.

I have the intake at same location. No water issues.

And, should have a "duck bill" on it. The get old and brittle and if so, need to be replaced.

On Newmars, the air intake box has a drain so that water flows out before it gets to the filter. I have to imagine your's is the same, otherwise there would have been many people logging issues over the years.
Now, some Newmar owners have discovered that the drain tube may have been sealed shut during manufacture and caused problems.

I don't think at highway speeds that much of a low pressure area could develop. IIRC, the opening is about 4" X 7" (maybe 8"). The intake feeds to the turbo through the filter, so I think the turbo would generate way more suction than any venturi effect created by the shield.

I have no experience with these shields but I do have a question. If the shield is tightly mounted against the side of the rig with the opening towards the rear of the vehicle, could it form a venturi effect that decreases the amount of air (pressure) that gets to the intake?

Friend has a Sportscoach with the air intake on the side like you describe. His has what looks like a little hood scoop covering the intake with the scoop opening facing the rear. Haven't heard him complain about water in his air filter. Scoop has a fairly large opening in the back so it doesn't restrict airflow, I guess.

side note: water into the engine is not so bad. Mechanics, and myself, used to clean the cylinders and valves by spraying water into th eintake to give the insides a steam bath. There are engine systems out there that use a fine mist of water sprayed into the intake to help with economy. The water turns to steam, expands and helps spread the fuel particles out over the piston head to give a more powerful burn. These systems are expensive so not widely used.
The downside is water getting past the piston rings and into the crank case oil. I used to spray clean mine right before an oil change just in case.

Wet paper filters is a big issue, but it sounds like you have the right idea to jerry rig something to keep the water away.

The air intake is flat grid on side of the Motorhome. As far as I can find there is no commercial ready made solution. That is why I posted originally in Modifications.
Some kind of shield to fend off water spray during rain and rain while sitting still. Right now I am thinking a roll of duct tape while sitting still if it is going to rain but that stuff s not really great on paint if the sun is on it and that approach is half a.....
