Leak

Driving home on interstate the other day I ran into a downpour. After awhile a couple of drops of water came down , looks to be from where the fiberglass roof over cap meets the metal vehicle roof, 09 fleetwood class c on dodge chassis. It appears to me that the seal there is a gasket rather than sealant, does show some signs of age, minor cracking. I have read some threads, some say to use dicor, never silicone. I also read one guys dissertation that dicor is marketing hype, only good for laps on rubber roofs, he says use quality silicone. This location is obviously a tight spot that must withstand driving rain at 70 mph. I don’t see how it would be possible to get in there with any of the tapes. Anyone have experience sealing this area on a class c, with recommendations for what actually works best? Any help appreciated.
  • Eternabond there on our old C. and on the rear cap too up there. You can overlap Eternabond to make it wider.

Also your clearance lights front and back can leak which can be confusing as to where the water is getting in
  • Dicor and tape use on the roof should be regularly completed. At least yearly.

Having owned quite a few used RV's over the years, I always use Dicor over ALL laps, seams, and junctions no matter what they are. I really don't care what the finished product looks like, as long as there is never water intrusion. Presently I have a 1999 SunnyBrook that has NEVER leaked anywhere.
  • Well, That "guy" has no real knowledge. Silicone is NEVER used as a sealant on the roof. Dicor and eternabond is the way to go. Doug
    1. Silicone will NOT adhere correctly to metal or fiberglass or paint
    2. I can peel off Silicone from almost any type surface very easily.
    3. Dicor adheres to almost anything and is self leveling.
  • The problem is that once silicone is used nothing else will ever stick to that area.
