I love a happy ending, and when it is in the original post so much the better.
I have done a lot of electrical fixes, thankfully none quite that involved.
I will tell folks this.. A good flashlight helps with this kind of repair
And a 12 volt Automotive test light (plus a 120 volt test lamp) for tracing power leads (use the proper lamp depending on which side of life you are working on) is priceless or a few dollars at the auto store or hardware store.... Way way better than a voltmteter.
