We have several LED lights that plug into an extension cord or 110V receptacle. This keeps the batteries charged and if the power goes out the lights come on automatically if you set the switch to do so.They provide enough light to stumble over to grab the light and use it as a flashlight.Do a google search for power outage light or flashlight...they're very inexpensive and last about 3 years.

We have a 1 car attached garage to the house that I use for my wood shop (we have a 4 car un-attached garage too). So the attached is my play room. Now, when the lights are out and the doors are shut, and no windows ... it's dark! And far to often I come in from the outside after dark and have to fumble my way around the dark.It only took 7 years to come up with a simple solution!.... Glow-in-the-dark spray paint! Yup! Guides me to the light switch every time now! Spray it on the walls, around the light switch, on the floor (concrete) to make a guided path, and when it dries, you don't even see it. It's clear. But turn off the lights and everything glows that errie magical green color!Works great! I haven't banged into anything with light out in a long, long time now!If you don't want to use Glow-in-the-dark spray paint to help assist your path when lights are out, get some glow in the dark stickers and put them on the walls, on the door posts, cabinet door handles ... wherever. It will help when you drop that flashlight the next time!

Well I -really really- do not want to do an involuntary reveille at 0255 just because the power failed. It happens too often. My BiPAP is UPS with the Lifeline. I have a gooseneck 120 vac lamp with a weighted base and pushbutton. Pushy pushy still pitch black I want to braille my fingers onto a toggle button. Yes I "could" convert the lamp to 12 volts but the bathroom means a trip through the bedroom, through a short hall, through the kitchen, through the laundry room...A pair of those 8 watt Cree chips would give me enough light to navigate. The dis-intelligent structure builder placed the kitchen switch on the far side of the kitchen, and of course the bedroom light is placed over the foot of the bed with the switch by the front door.Emergency lighting is great. But for down here it would mean perhaps 200 cycles per year. But thanks for the suggestion.I DO HAVE a 12 volt reading light next to the recliner. A sudden power loss would have me toggle the bedroom light, then return to switch off the reading light. The kitchen light (8 watts 120 volts) stays on until I go to bed. I switch on the bedroom 12 volt reading light (intense!) then return and switch off the kitchen (120vac) light.This all sounds amusing. But old age plus a cornucopia of cardiac medications causes not-so-amusing vertigo when the lights go out.

What you need is a 12 volt "Clapper".

Your replies encouraged a needle-in-a haystack-search.

On eBay I found a solo A & B transmitter with telescoping antenna. no ridiculous 12 volt tiny battery. 9-volt therefore a Lithium would last years. 1,000 meter range. Good for thick concrete interior walls.

Multiple coded 12-volt receivers with 10-amp rated relay. <2ma quiescent draw.

Program one receiver at a time. The rest disconnected from the circuit.

Paint with recommended glo-in-dark green paint to find A & B buttons in dark.

I tried pucks. They need a correct 12 volt TO220 voltage regulator for elimination of two dollar a pop down-here alkaline batteries.

I have LED nightlights in most of my rooms that come on automatically at night. With a power outage they get brighter and act as a flashlight.

Old fashioned Mexican houses are land mines. Glass smooth tile. Bathroom floors raised 10" for the toilet trap. Ramped up leaving the bathroom then a 10" step down. One good hand to hold a lantern the bad hand to hold or grab nothing.

Oh, I forgot. I also have a little hanging battery lantern on a hook by the bed. That is very handy. It's securely attached; I turn it on and off without unhooking it.

Lots of good ideas in this thread.

Me,I rely on my phone (flashlight app) and a cord that plugs SNUGLY into its charging socket. If I drop the phone I can gently pull it back up onto the bed by the cord. Here fishy, fishy...

One time I sat down on a rolling chair on a concrete floor. Too close to the front of edge of the seat, chair zipped out from under me, wham, I hit the concrete. Sat there laughing. My friend: 'Are you ok?! Why are you laughing?' Me: 'I broke my azz!' Just the coccyx.

O,Man, ya don't need flashlights to find your way around in the dark.
I just rely on my toes, they find all the obstacles and I just move around them until the toes find another obstacle. This way I don't waste electrical energy.
