New air conditioner brand for me

On different trailers I've owned 2 with Dometic A/C's and 2 with Coleman A/C's. I was well satisfied with the performance and noise level of the Colemans and not so much with the Dometics. This weekend I'll pick up a new Kodiak 173 QBSL. It has a Chinese Advent A/C installed. Anyone have any information on what I have to look forward to? If the info is not good, then at least I live in western Washington where an A/C is not often needed.
  • Thanks guys. Not much definitive yet, huh? From my perspective, I thought the Chinese were smarter than that. They shoulda copied the Coleman, but, to me anyway, any improvement on a Dometic would be appreciated. Just in my limited experience with them.
  • I too have the Advent AC in my TT. The TT was purchased last fall so only used the AC one time. I installed the heat element to mine so I would have 110v heat. In doing this I need to talk to their tech about the install. This led me to a discussion about the copying issue that Dominic has posted. The heating element for their unit is not controlled by the thermostat. This is one of the issues that Dominic won in their law suit. The other was the direct downward blast of air that can be selected of Dominic units. The law suit did have a time limit related to when they could add these features to their units. I'm hoping the unit holds up well. I have not seen much on first hand bad experiences lately. Time will tell.
  • Advent is a Chinese direct Knock off of Dometic Brisk air AC unit. The AC is a CHINESE import. The "American" Company just buys from overseas. Advent is a new entry. Carrier left the business and there are very FEW Advent service centers or RV service centers that service them or have parts. Until they get a much larger market share, I would stay away from them. Look at what happened to the Carrier line. AND "Carrier" was a BIG established AC company. IF OEM on a new unit, you really have no choice. Doug

    Have you seen This? :h

Interesting. Hard to imagine a roof top AC not looking similar to most any other roof top AC so I'm not sure quite what Dometic means. I would expect it to be a lower price and if not lower quality at least unproven quality.

It'a a tough market, the RV manufacturers are trying to make a buck by putting on the lowest cost hardware... not a big surprise.
  • Found a post on another 'rv forum'....it is a response by a rep of ASA Electronics.
"....the producer of the JENSEN brand of televisions, stereos, and speakers, the Voyager brand of observation monitors and cameras, and the Advent brand of appliances."

Also states they are an America Company located in Elkhart, ID

Have NO direct dealings with an Advent A/C but personally as soon as I read JENSEN I was turned OFF. Jensen products are junk IMHO!
