Noisy Furnace

My 2001 Arctic Fox 5er came with a Suburban SF 30F furnace and when it runs, the fan is very noisy. I am contemplating insulating the unit to make it quieter. I noticed that Suburban now makes a "quiet" version of the same furnace. Anyone have any experience between noise levels of the quiet vs the normal? Or perhaps insulating the old one vs the "quiet" one?

But if he oils the bearings and it gets quiet, then he knows that replacing the motor will make it quiet...a lot cheaper than buying a new furnace.

  • The camper is new to us, so don't know history. I called Suburban, and woman wouldn't give me any idea of how quiet it is. She said they were buying motors from another newer supplier. She suggested I go to a deealership and listen to a camper that has the quiet one installed.

Always been noisy? Or has it gotten progressively noisy over time? If over time, motor bearings are a possibility. So are an obstruction in the air supply/exhaust ducting OR a nest in the blower itself.
  • sometimes replacing the motor will quiet it down.. The Sleeve bearings dry out over time and start to whine.
  • If the "quiet" furnace is a two speed unit you will have better results with a swap.
  • what ever you do to reduce the noise, do not block the cold air intake in the trailer
