Norcold 962 - Old Unit

A good friend of mine has a 962 and she's having an issue with it not cooling. She turned it off, defrosted it (because of the ice build up) and when she turned it back on, it's not working.

I've had her adjust the thermister up - but that's not working.

I'm having her:

Check for Flame on LP (at lease we'd know cooling is called for).
Check the Freezer for any sort of cooling.

It's from 1986 so it's possible it just died, but it's also possible the baffle is corroded or something like that.

My guess is the thermister is damaged and she needs to replace it - but given the age, it's going to be hard to find a replacement part.

On this unit, if you jump the thermister will it call for cooling or not?

If that's the case, then I can walk her through jumping the thermister and getting the unit working - at least until she gets a replacement thermister.

Thanks in advance!

YES.....if thermistor is unplugged the fridge reverts to BOS (Backup Operating System-----continues cooling not based on temp but based on TIME. Time is based on temp setting. Higher number --longer time)

Moving thermistor up/down does NOT affect that fridge....it has adjustable temp settings. Moving thermistor will affect temp (minor) with models that have AUTO TEMP ADJUST
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Also, clamp or plug the drain tube from the drip tray under the coils. This runs out into the area near the burner and allows warm air to enter.

considering the record high temps yesterday
i would turn it on leave it closed and check in about 12 - 24 hours

a warm fridge is going to have a slow time getting cold, in this weather
it might be OK, she just might have picked the wrong day to defrost

outside of poking a sharp object thru the plastic into the coils, defrost is not going to hurt the fridge, is she on LP or using 120v
the 120v heating coil might have died
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !
