Norcold flu baffle removal

Just discovered that after my roof was replaced (another story) they dumped a load of sawdust down into the the fridge compartment.

When I removed the flame area cover for inspection, sure enough, it was full of sawdust too. The more I tap on the flu, the more dust I get so I need to clean it out.
If I remove the roof vent and screen, can I just pull the cork-screw shaped flew baffle straight up and out for cleaning?

Cannot begin to tell you how disgusted I am with Northwoods build
and service dept. quality.
  • Thanks all,
I ended up using some rags to somewhat seal the area around the bottom of the flu and just use a leaf blower to clean it out.
I can't get anything more to fall out of it so I'm going to skip the roof work.

    Happy trails!

  • Just use compressed air to blow UP from the burner up. That will remove any debris. Otherwise, you will have to pull the refer to remove the Baffle. You could remove the top roof vent cover, but that entails MORE work than is needed. Much easier to pull the refer. Besides, if you pull the refer top cover, then that exposes YOU to liability if there becomes a roof leak. The Roof people will state you caused any possible roof leak. While you can access the Baffle wire from the top roof vent, believe me, it is easier to pull the refer. Doug

Can't you just rap on the flue with a screwdriver handle and knock the sawdust loose so you can clean it up from the burner area? The only one of those I ever pulled was on an older Dometic. It was a spiral baffle with a wire "handle" on the upper end.
Or, could you jet the thing a couple times with compressed air, from burner area upward?
I ask because I'm trying to spare you pulling the rooftop fridge vent.
And, Oh, my roof repair left the same mess. I don't like them either.
