Norcold N841 Blowing Fuses

I have a first time problem with a Norcold N841 blowing the 5 amp fuse on the control board. It blows as soon as i plug the 110 power source in. The OHM reading is 34 between the two black wires of the heater leads. I am seeing some yellow residue around the LP burner, which I understand is an indication of really bad news. Do I just need to bite the bullet on a new unit or cooling unit, or could it possibly be a case where i could replace the board or heater or just run off propane?
  • NEW Norcold cooling unit will have a new Heating element which will kill 2 birds with one stone. If you go rebuilt or aftermarket CU, you will have to purchase a new Heating Element also. Doug

I agree with all the advice above, but let me add:

The 120VAC heating element should NOT have continuity to GROUND. It should only read resistance across the terminals as you have tested. If either lead has any continuity to the cooling unit itself, that's proably the reason it's blowing fuses.

But as mentioned, there seem to be bigger issues, like failed cooling unit, with this fridge.
  • 5A fuse is for the AC electric circuit.....heater element normal ohms is 40 (=/- 5%)

Yellow residue is a bad sign.....that means the tubing as cracked and the coolant has leaked out.
Do not run it on AC or propane..........it won't cool and could be a fire hazard.

Here is a service manual that covers that model.....pg. 20 shows how to access 'diagnostic screen'......LINK

Looks like a new cooling unit will be needed......check out RV Cooling Warehouse if you decide to go that way.......LINK
