Onan 7.5hdkaj11502g generator

I have the above generator and it has been running great, until a few days ago and it just shut off. I found how to get the fault codes and I got 3-32 fault code. 3 is the primary code and 32 is the secondary.
The generator will start and run for anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours.

Any Ideas ??
  • The fault code 32 is officially titled "low cranking speed". The speed is read from generator stator windings. If your set sounds like it is cranking over at normal speed, then the problem is most likely a failed generator stator or control board (part of inverter/controller assembly)
very difficult to diagnose exact problem, without equipment. Fault code 33 (high coolant temp) is much more consistent with your symptoms, i.e. running for short time then shutting down. causes are water pump belt broken or slipping, low coolant level (check at rad cap, not just looking at overflow bottle), or faulty coolant temp sending unit.

    Diesel generator?

Might be a temp switch inside that detect oil temp?

I know that Onan makes good equipment but that just sounds like a fairy tail to me. What kind of sensors and electronics would it take to detect oil "breakdown" ?? Probably would double the price.

But they DO have an oil level sensor.....and given that you didn't mention checking the oil level, THAT might have been the real problem.
  • I am using Chevron Delo 400 15W 40 oil. I am not sure how many hours are on the oil change. I am just purchasing the motor home and the previous owners do not know when the generator was last serviced.

But something everyone needs to remember about oil, is that even it just sitting in the oil pan it breaks down. So it is not all about the hours but also about time.

I did an oil and filter change today and the generator has been running for over 10 hours without shutting down.

Thanks for posting. What kind of oil were you using and how many hrs on the old oil change ?

  • Thanks for that link....

I am still, company staying in motorhome until gen quit.

There is 630 hours on the unit.
  • Strikingly similar to another thread active right now.
    Odds are: Fuel pump.
