Onan MicroQuiet 4000 KY - Is this choke linkage backwards?

In my recent posting I asked about generator problems which turned out to be a varnished carb. I had the carb replaced at an Onan service center and now the genset starts fine, but as it warms up, the exhaust gets increasingly smoky with white smoke.

Reading through the forum postings, I wonder if the choke linkage might be on backwards. Can anyone tell this from the following photo?

Alternatively, could the white smoke be coming from gas in the oil? The oil does smell of gas.

Thanks.
  • Thanks, Generator Jim. So my carb seems to be linked correctly to the choke:

Do you see anything in the choke setting that might cause increasing white smoke exhaust as the genset warms up? Altitude is set to 5000'.

  • A backwards linkage will have the choke lever toward the outside of the genset.

  • Thanks for the pictures, CloudDriver.

My linkage appears to be the same as yours.

Do you happen to know what a "backwards" linkage connection looks like?
  • Perhaps these pictures will be of help.

The mirror view is a bit confusing - items at the top of the mirror are closer to the camera
