Permanent Fix For Mirror Falling Off Windshield

Sixth time. USA and Mexico. Professional glass shops, backyard mechanics and finally me.

When I use the windshield foil sunblock I guess it overheats the Loc-Tite, 3M, and the other two or three "no-fail" brands of mirror adhesive.

Yeah I cleaned with pure alcohol, trichloroethylene, lacquer thinner, yadda, then rinsed with distilled water. Results?

"THUNK". Another ten bucks down the tubes.

¡BASTA YA! (End of the line. Enough!)

I scraped the mirror mount clean. Sanded it with 600 grit emery. Then used alcohol. I sanded a spot on the windshield smaller than the mirror pad.

Needed something to jam between the seat-back head rest and mirror pad. A trimmed 2X2 did the trick.

Mixed up some ARCTIC SILVER EPOXY. Two part. Put a dab on the sanded windshield and another on the sanded pad. Jammed the 2X2 in place. Next day removed the 2X2.

It's been a month with windshield temps above 130F with the shade in place.

Hell no I wasn't satisfied with the mirror (just) not falling off.

I grabbed a cloth, removed the shade and gave a vicious yank back and forth to the mirror. It remained stuck tight. If I had twisted any harder I would have broken the mirror or pad.

There is gizmo gimmickry then there is stuff that works. Just thought I'd post this just in case someone else has this nightmare. It is NO FUN driving the toad in city traffic after a mirror falls off.
