True if the pigtails have inverted flare fittings that connect to the auto change over/regulator and there are already male pipe thread x inverted flair adapters already installed in the auto change over/regulater.

However not all pigtails have reverse flare fittings on the end of the hose.

I just replaced one pigtail, as well as the cross-over pigtail a few weeks ago. The above is why I prefer Teflon paste over tape. It probably won't happen, but a sliver of Teflon tape floating through my propane system is not something I ever want to deal with.

My regulator has 1/4 NPTF on both sides. Three sides actually, including the outlet. My cross-over pigtail hose has a flare fitting on the pipe side. Hoses and pigtails were available on Amazon in any combination of fittings and lengths that I could imagine.

I went a little longer than the original for the tank pigtail. I am sure it was pulling tight from being too short by a few inches, which led to a premature leak. Something to consider.

I just changed out my single tank regulator with an auto changeover, 2 tank regulator. The pigtails that I installed both had inverted flair fittings. The regulator itself had tapered pipe threads where both pigtails attached. The regulator manufacturer also included the adapters need to go from the pipe thread to the flair end of the pigtails. The installation instructions specifically stated to use yellow sealant tape or pipe dope on the pipe threads. They also instructed to NOT use any sealant or tape to the flair attachment.
If you want verification, do a google search on how to seal pipe fittings.

Most RV pigtail to regulator joints that I am aware of have an inverted flare fitting not pipe threads. I do know pigtails can be purchased with NPT so I assume that is what OP has.

Unless the male pipe thread end already had sealant on it, the instructions were either referring to the end that attaches to the tank or they were wrong.
NPT threads for a gas connection should have sealant. No professional plumber would ever make a gas connection with NPT threads and not use some kind of sealant.

You can safely use the white teflon tape. The yellow is just thicker and is designed for use with the coarse, heavy duty steel pipes used for natural gas. The white is likely to work better than the yellow for the pigtail fittings.

It's just standard male to female pipe thread. Mainly just curious if the white Teflon tape is ok, or should I buy a roll of the Teflon made for gas type tape.

On today's rvs you will find both inverted FLARE and male pipe thread. Won't know till you look at yours!! Our TimberRidge has mpt (Cavagna regulator), and our last trailer was flare ftg. By the OP's question, he is asking aboot pipe thread.
