Propane vent or leak???

Hello everybody, we just bought a 05 forest river flagstaff m-23. We are trying to get the propane heat to pop off and replaced propane whip and now I'm checking for leaks with soapy water. No leaks at the whips but at the removable cap (black) I'm seeing bubbles coming up from the bottom. Is this a leak or normal venting operation?
  • The pigtail on the left looks original, which would be a 1/4" inverted flair fitting- no tape needed or permitted. The pigtail on the left looks a bit off, though it's probably just a different style. Some regulators and pigtails do come with 1/4" pipe threads- not interchangeable. Pipe threads need LP rated pipe dope or tape.
  • A quick note to add about leak detection, I use a product called " Snoop". It comes with a long thin tube to apply to gas connections. Ready to use and no need to mix soap and water.
  • I got a new regulator coming. I went with a camco 59005, it looks Most like the one that's on there. Do you use Teflon tape or pipe dope when doing the propane fittings?
  • ... and the black indicator handle should point to one tank or the other, never straight up in the middle.
  • It should not vent unless overfilled. I vote leak.
  • Propane regulators do not VENT propane.....Time for new 2 stage auto low pressure regulator

See new pigtail hose on one side...looks like an older one on other side.
    Replace that old one also

After you have replaced/checked for leaks......hose/rinse everything down and remove that soapy residue. It is not good for hoses.
