Range Hood Fan

We were cooking with the range hood fan on, and it suddenly quit running. Interestingly, the hood light stayed on. I looked at the fuses and didn't find any that were bad.

I assume that since the light works, that the power coming to the hood is good. One thing I did notice when I had the fan assembly opened, that one of the leads to the fan has what looks like a resistor in line. Since we just arrived in Bullhead City, Az and they have a Harbor Freight and will grab one of the multimeters and start checking voltages.

I would like to find a hood fan that was not a piece of junk. Mine is so noisy I hate to use it. There also seems to be another issue. Every exhaust flapper I have seen is just made from cheap plastic. I need a ladder in order to latch the flapper. If it is not latched it flaps while I drive and does not last long.

As someone suggested to me, use the awing pull rod to operate the latches. I also did this to add protection and allow open and close from inside: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/24397265.cfm

OP, as others have mentioned that resistor thing is likely a thermal fuse. They are cheap, like the fan itself. I once replaced on on a home range vent fan.

Might have been a resistor or a thermal fuse.. It might be bad or not (you need a multi-meter to be sure) I've had to replace a motor or two.
